There are a lot of people out there that like going to stores and picking out one of those model kits that they like the look of, to simply take it home and build it from the instructions but there are also people out there that like to do things a bit differently? This is what people call custom model building and it is quite popular.
Where Does This Occur?
Well by the looks of things it seems that the industry to use these the most is of course the film industry and this is because they cannot use pre built model kits as it just would not work at all!. If all of the movies actually used the same kind of kits that the public bought we would be seeing a lot of the same models in the films that we sit down to enjoy!
What a film company usually does is get someone to come in to create the best scale models that they can from parts found all across the board. Helicopters are created with RC helicopters and the same goes for things like RC aircraft. Of course with many of the older films you can actually see that the models are fake but with better technology being put into the making and the filming of scenes with models in them it is very hard to tell nowadays.
Of course on top of this you will see a lot of people that just build up various things for a bit of fun. Some of the best examples that I have seen of people doing this are usually mixed with train sets because having a train set encourages people top be more creative.
There are people that collect much of same thing to build up a collection like the video at the top of the post!
